A NEWBIES GUIDE TO FIREFLY

Firefly is known for it’s great sense of community and good vibes. It’s a great place to hang out with friends and it’s really easy to make new ones. First time at Firefly? Fear not, newbie. Here are some of our top tips to take into consideration.

Comfortable Shoes

Firefly, like all weekend-long music fests, is a marathon. And with performances and activities spread across 100-plus acres of land, you can plan on a lot of walking. Between the dirt, people (potentially) stepping on you, and drinks being spilled, you are going to want to pack comfortable, durable, and enclosed shoes.

Take Sun Protection Seriously

Being in the sun for at least 5+ hours a day is no joke. While the trees in The Woodlands offer lots of shade, there are a lot of open areas where intense sunburn is inevitable without proper preparation. We highly recommend that you bring along sunscreen, sunnies, and a hat. If your plan is to get a tan, trust us, that’ll happen. You don’t want to ruin your entire weekend by having the worst sunburn of your life!

Hydrate! Hydrate! Hydrate!

Water is a must! Not only will it keep you hydrated it will also keep you from getting leg and foot cramps. We recommend you bring a camelbak or swell bottle into the festival.  You can fill up your bottle at various water stations, that way, you don’t have to carry more than one water bottle around weighing you down. There are many portable water bottles for sale that hold more than one bottle of water. Refill your bottle at the end of the day so you are set for the morning.

Remember: Keeping hydrated is SO important.

Plan Ahead

While we do recommend having a go with the flow attitude at Firefly, it is always good to plan your days out. If you have an iPhone, definitely download the app before getting to The Woodlands. It sends you notifications about band cancellations and additions, sends weather advisories, and offers an in-app festival map. You can even customize your own schedule and set alerts before your favorite bands play. It’s also a good resource for researching bands you’re unfamiliar with and deciding who you want to check out.

Pack a day bag

We found bringing in a small bag or backpack was extremely helpful. We have an entire post (here) breaking down for you the essentials we bring with us. Firefly offers lockers around the festival, so if you’re tired of carrying your bag around definitely rent one of those. It definitely beats running back to your campsite & scanning back into the festival.
